Minimalist Hoarder

Minimalist Hoarder

Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat?  Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete? – Ariel

Confession: I am a hoarder. Problem is, I love to get rid of stuff. It gives me great joy to drop off junk to Goodwill. The more stuff, the greater the joy. Apparently I’m conflicted. I think that makes me a minimalist hoarder.

I am a hoarder of things I like, like paper plates, pretty napkins, cute dishes, and coffee mugs. I can always find room for a jar of sprinkles or a pack of notecards. These days I have a fondness for lip stuff. Have you seen those adorable Eos things? My purse is full.

I am a minimalist when it comes to other things, like hairspray and peanut butter. I don’t like to have ten jars or cans of anything taking up space. Plus, if it’s there, it’s open. I love to finish off the last bit and throw it away before I buy or open a new one.  My family doesn’t see things the same way. My girls can have 7 open bottles of shampoo in their shower. Seriously? If we have 5 jars of peanut butter, you can bet they’ll all be open (who doesn’t love that first creamy swirl?). Ugh!!

My minimalist side loves to go on sprees where I get rid of everything I don’t love. Sometimes this includes stuff that other people DO love. Oops. Sorry about those ten-year old soccer shorts with a rip in them, Sean. When my kids can’t find something, their first thought is that I gave it to Goodwill. Usually pretty accurate. Sometimes I realize maybe I did love something after it’s already gone.   Oh well, less is more, right? Minimalist.

Well, I just got back from Target. We were out of peanut butter, but I picked up several packs of really cute napkins. Hey, they were on clearance!
